Spanish Revival Holy Family
A friend - a California transplant who grew up in a neighborhood filled with Spanish Revival homes - commissioned this piece to connect her to her past but also fit inside the Spanish revival home in which she lives in Columbia. East coast meets west coast holy trio! This stylized cylinder shape has depth and visual weight and was crafted using stoneware fired to cone 6 with commercial glazes.
Inspired by the Nativity story and the many forms it takes in different cultures, these figures emerged in response to my hands in clay and, therefore, my mood. The pieces below are from a series called Potter's Clay Nativity. The simplicity of form and depth of color and texture remind me that although we should live simple lives, they should be lives of substance and depth filled with a myriad of textures.
